Everyone checks the warranty. Almost nobody reads the return policy — and on a crated freight item costing thousands, it is the document that decides what a mistake costs. The spread across 8 brands runs from nothing to 30% plus freight on a product that needs a truck to move.
Peak Saunas advertises a “30-Day Risk-Free Trial”, and the trial part is genuine: their policy explicitly lets you assemble, install and use the sauna. Most brands here do not.
But returning it carries a 25% restocking fee, and the customer arranges and pays all return freight, with no labels provided. On the Everest at its current verified price, the restocking fee alone is $1,987.50 — before you pay to crate and ship a sauna back across the country. A trial you can lose two thousand dollars on is a trial. It is not risk-free.
We disclose that Peak declined our affiliate application on 26 August 2026. We track them unpaid, exactly as before, and this finding would read the same either way.

1. “Unopened” and “unassembled” are doing enormous work. Almost Heaven accepts returns of unopened products only and states plainly that assembled units cannot be returned. Plunge takes no returns on a sauna that has been uncrated. For those brands there is no version of events where you try it and change your mind — the decision is final the moment you open the crate.
2. The percentage is charged on a number large enough to matter. A restocking fee reads like a formality until it is applied to a five-figure purchase. The dollar figures in the table above are calculated from the prices we have actually verified, not from list prices.
3. Freight cuts both ways, and usually toward you. Redwood requires you to disassemble and palletize the unit yourself before shipping it back — on a cabin weighing around 1,150 lb. Peak provides no return labels. Where a brand folds freight into the restocking fee, as Nordic Wave and Ice Barrel do, that is genuinely better for the buyer even when the percentage looks higher.
Plunge Chill states plainly that it charges no return fees, restocking fees or processing fees of any kind, inside 30 days. That is the only zero-fee policy we found, and they are a disclosed affiliate partner — which is exactly why we are telling you the source and the date so you can check it yourself.
Nordic Wave has the shortest window at 15 days, and a doorway that turns out to be too narrow counts as buyer’s remorse rather than a delivery failure. But their policy is the clearest and most specific document we read, it separates defects from changes of mind, and it charges no restocking fee on a defect. A short honest policy is worth more than a long vague one.
